Former Jets QB sounds warning about Aaron Rodgers

Boomer Esiason, a former New York Jets quarterback, one-time Most Valuable Player, and current NFL pundit, revealed on Tuesday's episode of WFAN's "Boomer and Gio" program

why New York QB1 Aaron Rodgers "better not" have a say in who serves as his backup during the 2024 season. "The Jets have to do what's in the best interest of the team,

not one specific player," Esiason stated, according to Audacy's Ryan Chichester. "…Aaron Rodgers is not a 25-year-old earning $50 million a year

He's a 40-year-old recovering from a torn Achilles. You should have someone you trust back there. It doesn't matter if Aaron Rodgers likes him. If he has to play three or four games, you need to bring in a real man.

Rodgers' connection with Zach Wilson, combined with Jets owner Woody Johnson's apparent desire to keep the future Hall of Famer pleased, resulted in Wilson starting

this past season as New York's QB 2. Rodgers then tore his Achilles four offensive snaps into the regular season start,

and Wilson eventually flopped before being benched during a blowout defeat in Week 11. According to reports, Wilson's feelings toward Rodgers "soured over the season.

Johnson admitted last week that the Jets "need a backup quarterback," the latest indication that the team may try to get something in exchange for Wilson before or shortly after this year's draft.
