Mike Vrabel Reportedly Wanted Defensive Coordinator Job.
Mike Vrabel was unable to secure a head coaching position this offseason, much to the dismay of NFL fans everywhere.
Although it would be considered a step down, it appears that he is willing to serve as defensive coordinator next season.
According to Will Steele of A to Z Sports, Vrabel expressed interest in the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator position. So far, the Cowboys have not expressed an interest in Vrabel.
"I'm also being told that Vrabel and Wink Martindale both wanted a chance to talk but they're not getting," Steele went on to say.
On paper, Vrabel appears to be a terrific hire for the Cowboys. However, McCarthy is unlikely to want a well-known coach peering over his shoulder during a contract year.
"I don't know where that final decision is coming from," Steele said. "But you just wonder, head coach on a one-year, prove it deal, get a guy here like Mike Vrabel,
former head coach, he seems a bit more likely to be a head coach type than Ron Rivera." The Cowboys have already interviewed two former head coaches: Ron Rivera and Mike Zimmer. McCarthy appears to be pleased with employing Rivera.
Maybe, just maybe, the Cowboys will reconsider and invite Vrabel in for an interview. At the very least, he'd replenish the enthusiasm that Dan Quinn brought to Dallas.
