Overnight French Toast

Overnight French toast is a delectable treat that transforms sliced challah into a puddingy delight. While regular French toast is great for a quick breakfast, overnight French toast is even better. 

Ingredient FRENCH TOAST – Cooking spray 1 (1-lb.) loaf raisin challah or regular challah, sliced 1" thick 8 large egg 1/2 c. light brown sugar 1 c. heavy cream

Ingredient FRENCH TOAST 1 c. whole milk 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. kosher salt 1/4 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg

TOPPING 1 c. (2 sticks) butter, softened 1 c. light brown sugar 1 c. raw pecans, roughly chopped 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg 1/4 tsp. kosher salt – Fresh fruit and maple syrup, for serving


Step 1: Air-dry slices for 2 hours or up to 8 hours.  

Step 2: Arrange slices in a 13"-by-9" baking dish with overlapping rows. 

Step 3: Whisk eggs, brown sugar, cream, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl. 

Step 4: Pour egg mixture over bread. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight or up to 12 hours. 


To make French toast, preheat oven to 350°F and mix butter, brown sugar, pecans, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt into a thick paste. 

Spread the mixture evenly over bread and bake for 30-40 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Serve with fruit and maple syrup.
