The Kansas City Chiefs did not inspire confidence in the Super Bowl first half. They fell 10-3 to the 49ers in the first half. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and team persisted.
Finally, the Chiefs won 25-22 overtime in a thriller. Mahomes completed 34-of-46 throws for 333 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception against the 49ers. Brittany Mahomes, his wife, was proudest of his third Super Bowl MVP win.
Brittany, who rejoiced on the field with Sterling, almost 3, and Bronze, 14 months, posted a brief Instagram message after the game. “Back to Back 💯,” she captioned the post.
“It’s the start of one,” Mahomes said after the game when asked if the Chiefs are a “dynasty”. “Not done. We'll celebrate tonight and at the Kansas City parade Wednesday. We're not done. We have a youthful team; we'll continue.”
After the game, Mahomes posted a three-word Instagram message: “Never A Doubt ⏰.” Mahomes mentioned his wife while lifting the Lombardi Trophy. “Brittany is a great wife and mother. The best I can get is this, Mahomes said.
Mahomes sent a loud message to team doubters. The 49ers were 2.5-point Super Bowl favorites. “Yeah, just know that the Kansas City Chiefs are never underdogs,” he said. “Know that.” The Chiefs quarterback is tied with Joe Montana for second-most Super Bowl MVPs. “Brittany is a great wife and mother. The best I can get is this, Mahomes said.
He needs two more wins to tie Tom Brady. Mahomes, 28, may break Brady's record before retiring. Mahomes stated, “To me it will always be tough because Brady beat me in the Super Bowl.”
The Chiefs became the first team since the 2003-2004 Patriots to win consecutive Super Bowls. Kansas City became the fifth NFL team to win three Super Bowls in five years under Mahomes. Can the Chiefs win another Super Bowl next year as he implied?
Betting against Mahomes is pointless now. Jonathan Jones of CBS reported that Brittany yelled to Taylor Swift from the podium as the squad celebrated. “I told you so!” she exclaimed.
Travis Kelce's girlfriend flew from Tokyo to Las Vegas for the game. Travis' brother Jason Kelce, Kylie, Donna, and Ed Kelce watched the comeback triumph in a suite with her. Ice Spice, Ashley Avignone, Blake Lively, Keleigh Teller, and Miles Teller attended.
Kelce caught 9 passes for 93 yards after one catch in the first half. Kelce set up the Chiefs' game-tying field goal with a 22-yard reception at 19.68 mph, according to Next Gen Stats. His “fastest speed as a ball carrier over the last seven seasons.”
