Rex Ryan: Mike Zimmer doesn't have DC job yet; Cowboys 'so close' to Super Bowl success

Former NFL head coach Rex Ryan found himself in the spotlight last week, which surprised many observers, after it was disclosed that he had interviewed with the Cowboys for the defensive coordinator post.

On Super Bowl Sunday, he returned to ESPN's pregame desk and explained why he decided to enter the coaching ranks after seven years away.

He also delivered a little shocker about the man who is rumored to be getting the DC job in Dallas.

First and first, I'm not sure [Mike] Zimmer has that job right now. "I'm not sure," Ryan added. "I can honestly say I don't believe that's a fact right now."

Ryan stopped, as if expecting a major reaction from his Postseason NFL Countdown cohosts, but it's not a very stunning revelation. The news that Zimmer was Dallas' choice first surfaced Thursday night

 just before the NFL Honors program was supposed to begin. While literally on the red carpet, 

 Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hinted at an anticipated hire, stating that he had "been on the phone all afternoon with our future defensive coach."

Jones was said to be working the phones in Las Vegas to finalize details with the 67-year-old Zimmer, but it's not impossible to believe that getting
