The Spider-Man actor will play Romeo in the West End production of William Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet" in London.
He revealed the news on Instagram on Tuesday, a day after foreshadowing a "big announcement."
Jamie Lloyd, the director of "Romeo & Juliet," has previously worked on Broadway with Jessica Chastain in "A Doll's House" and Tom Hiddleston in "Betrayal."
"Romeo & Juliet" will have a 12-week limited run at London's Duke of York's Theatre commencing in May.
The play is billed as a "pulsating new vision of Shakespeare's immortal tale of wordsmiths, rhymers, lovers and fighters.
"This will be somewhat of a homecoming for Holland, who began his career in theatre. Beginning in 2008, the actor performed as Michael Caffrey,
the titular character's best friend, in "Billy Elliot the Musical" at London's Victoria Palace Theatre. He later portrayed Billy Elliot himself.
In a GQ profile published in 2021, Holland described coming down with tonsillitis on the day of his debut but completing the act without anyone knowing.
